Online Sellers: 8 Mind-Blowing Facts About the Organic Makeup Scam

Posted by Big Brand Wholesale.com on 10th Nov 2020

It’s no secret that in the past 5 years people have began to demand transparency in product ingredients, then actually examining the ingredients, followed by the shocking discovery that most companies are making literally dangerous products which had lead consumers to pay the extra buck to get the “safe alternative”. But this has also opened the door to a world of scams and swindles, and the cosmetic industry is no exception. So today I am going to tell you all about Organic Makeup so you can know what it is before you invest in it to resell.

THE SCAM BEGINS:

If you see a Organic Seal on a cosmetic, you, just like anyone else, would assume the product must be made from super safe, natural ingredients, right? I mean, if it isn’t why would the seal be on it? Here’s the catch:

1. The FDA does not define the terms “organic” or “natural” or regulate their usage in labeling or advertising cosmetics. Yes, you read that correctly.

2. This is directly from the FDA Organic Cosmetics website:

So, according to the FDA the "Organic" cosmetic may indeed be totally TOXIC.

3. There's also a "CCOF" Organic Seal:

So I'm sure you're wondering about the requirements, right?  Here you go!  This was taken directly from the CCOF website on 11.6.20:

Just in case you can't read what the image above says, let me tell you.  A question in their FAQ section says "How can I certify my organic product?"  and the answer is, "Currently there is no federal regulation for organic cosmetics"

4. But, the craziness doesn't end there.  Let's pretend you want to say the product is “organic” but you know full well that there’s non-organic ingredients; instead you can use the NSF seal:

The NSF seal can be used on products that contain 70% organic ingredients. NSF does claim to test the products to ensure that 70% is organic, but again, is it actually “organic” if 30% of it isn’t???? Does it even matter if it contains a couple “organic ingredients” if the rest is chemicals and garbage?

5. On top of that, if there isn’t a seal on the makeup, it can still CLAIM to be “Organic” as long as 1% (YES, ONE PERCENT) of the product is an organic ingredient. So yes, you can have a dangerous chemical product, heavy on arsenic (literal poison) and aluminum then throw in some Sunflower oil or Lavender to make it smell nice and call it “Organic” and charge an extra $2 because the buyer will never know the difference.

6. To top it all off CERTIFIED DOES NOT MEAN REGULATED. After you are Certified there is NO REGULATION.

7. Let’s take it a step further, did you know that absolutely NOBODY regulated the components of the actual jar the cosmetics come inside? This means that the actual plastic container can be contaminated. The topic of contaminated plastic is something we will discuss on a different day, but these chemicals have been linked to a variety of health problems, including reproductive harm and obesity, plus issues such as organ problems and developmental delays in children.  So even IF the product is semi-organic it can very easily be inside of a contaminated jar.

8. And even after discussing all of this, we haven’t even mentioned the entire Black Market beauty industry. This is a photo of a REAL makeup “factory”:

Here’s the other half of their “factory”:

You want to guess what they were producing? “ORGANIC” MAKEUP. *mic drop*
