Online Sellers: 6 Reasons Why You Should Back Away from Twitter Marketing

Posted by Big Brand Wholesale.com on 21st Apr 2021

If you’re an online seller you are most likely a small business with limited time and deciding what social media channel to put your marketing efforts into is no easy choice. When a choice is difficult I prefer to look at genuine data, so lets check out statistics of Twitter use in 2021, which will absolutely prove that twitter is PROBABLY NOT where you should be investing your energy. Let’s take a look:

1. 22% of U.S. adults use Twitter (Whereas almost 40% of USA adults use Instagram and a whopping 70% of Americans use Facebook)

2. If your merchandise is geared towards teens, Twitter is their LEAST favorite social media platform, according to Pew Research. The only other social media platforms they use less is Reddit and Tumblr:

3. Roughly 42% of Twitter users are on the platform daily. Although this sounds AMAZING, this means 60% of Twitter uses do not login daily! However, the latest Facebook statistics show that users spend an average of 19.5 hours on the social media app each month and many websites report Americans opening their facebook cell phone app 10 - 17 times PER DAY!

4. The U.S. accounts for just 36 million monetizable daily active Twitter users. BUT Facebook reports 1.66 BILLION daily active users.

5. 71% of Twitter users say they use the network to get their news. - Note: This says NEWS. It does not say Products, Shopping, Reviews, etc.

6. 38% of U.S. Twitter users are between the ages of 18 and 29, 26% of users are 30-49 years old.

With all of this in mind, Twitter is becoming less and less of a valuable platform to market merchandise.
