Online Sellers: Why Can’t Buyers READ? 4 Things to Consider

Posted by Big Brand Wholesale.com on 28th Feb 2022

You listed a blue size small Tommy Hilfiger tank top. You get an email asking what size it is. ARRGGGHH!

Then you sell the blue size small Tommy Hilfiger tank top and the buyer demands a refund because you sent a blue tank top. *bangs head on desk*.

Welcome to the wonderful world of buyers who choose not to read!

Here’s a few things to consider:

1. Some people really do not read at all. They look at the photos and price then buy it. I am guessing that these people are used to returning a lot of merchandise.  If you have extremely important information you could consider adding it to an image and uploading it as the last product photo.  For example, if you only ship on Wednesdays you could make a little graphic like this:

There's tons of free and paid programs that you can use to make graphics.  We use the paid upgrade version of PicMonkey.com.  Read our PicMonkey Review

2. Then there’s buyers who do read but they also look at a TON of similar listings. I believe these types of people simply mixed up listings. When they bought your item they thought they were buying a different item. Or you have a lot of listings and they mixed those up.

3. Sometimes the person is just looking for a return but doesn’t want to admit there’s utterly nothing wrong with the item. To attempt to avoid having to pay return shipping they blame the listing.

4. And lastly, there’s an issue that is more so on your end than the buyers end. The issue is your listing is improperly formatted. You can learn how to very easily format your listings for maximum sales (and less headache from buyers who can’t read!). Also you should read another one of our blog posts called How to Write the Perfect Product Title. There’s no way to force people to read but you can correctly format to curve the amount of people who can’t read.
