What Month Should I Start Selling Fall and Winter Clothing?

Posted by Big Brand Wholesale.com on 9th Jul 2020

Today we are going to discuss when you should start making the heavy changes in product ordering to stay consistent with seasons.

There are only two main seasons; summer and winter. Spring and fall are transitional seasons; and if you’re like me, you wear your hoodie for both. BUT the world of fashion (runway shows) actually divides the seasons completely opposite! In the fashion world the only two seasons are “Spring” and “Fall”, regardless of what the actual weather is. The Fashion Industry considers January through June to be “Spring” and “July through December” is fall. The reason this is important is because the Industry has massive pull when it comes to what ends up on store shelves. This means (in the Industry) that January 1st is the main day to launch “Spring” and July 1st is the first day of “Fall” (YUCK! Don’t take away my summer!!!!). This is the reason why you will start seeing Fall styles in stores this month (JULY! SIGH!), But the good news for us at BigBrandWholesale.com is that we will start getting “Spring” (which is technically SUMMER!) liquidations this month, even though it is, in MY opinion, Prime-Time Summer (Oops, I mean, “Spring”). Does that make sense?

So, if you are also a clothing seller and if you want to stick to current trends, you want to put in your orders for your Fall merch literally today so you can have them listed or on your boutique shelves by mid-July.

Additionally, you can get your Winter (or, as the industry calls it “Fall”) apparel and accessories in August because you want to have your heavy items (Coats and such) in full swing in September.

Let’s review what we learned:

JANUARY: “Spring” Wave #1: Lighter-Weight items

FEB / MARCH: “Spring” Wave #2: Swimwear, tank tops, shorts

JULY: “Fall” Wave #1: Hoodies, jeans

AUGUST / SEPTEMBER: “Fall” Wave #2: Heavy Coats, snow hats
