What is a Designer Clothing SAMPLE? Cost + How to Get Them!

Posted by Big Brand Wholesale.com on 31st Jan 2021

When you hear the word "Sample" you immediately think of the free bite of BBQ chicken you get at Sams Club or the little complimentary packet of facial lotion serum from Clinique.  However a "Sample" in the clothing industry is totally different... and NO, it isn't "free".   Here's the truth about clothing samples:

SAMPLE PIECES:

A clothing "Sample" is not a free item.  I mean, think about it; if everyone gave away free clothing, someone could get free samples and make an actual business out of selling free clothing samples... so you can absolutely be assured that a free Calvin Klein hoodie or a Free Levis jeans simply does not exist.  With that being said, our company does offer "grab bags", which are small samples for as little as $24.99 with free shipping.  Ok, let's get back to discussing what a Clothing Sample actually IS:

Big companies, have a very thorough process when it comes to buying merchandise for their stores and website.  You may be shocked to see just how complex the process truly is.   On the "Sample Tag"  sometimes there's a giant list of process that every individual item has to go through before it ever makes it to the floor.  Other times the tag is fairly traditional, but instead of saying the usual info it will say PRESELL.  Here's an actual "Tag" from Reebok:

Depending on the Stage of the Sample, it may have interior markings on the garment.  My assumption is that these marking specify changes the store wants made to the item before they purchase mass production.  However I sincerely do not know because stores typically do not tend to sell Sample pieces.

With that in mind, these Samples are never liquidated for FREE.  In fact, we pay almost FULL PRICE for these Samples.  There is NO SUCH THING AS FREE SAMPLES IN THE CLOTHING INDUSTRY.  On occasion you may be able to find a manufacturer who might send you a free SWATCH of fabric that they make clothing out of.   A swatch is usually available through a manufacturer and will look something like this:

These are VERY SMALL pieces of fabric.  The small sample can literally fit in the palm of your hand.  Trust me, there is no monetary advantage to investing time into seeking out free clothing sample swatches.  You will spend more time trying to get them then the amount you could ever make off selling a single scrap.  Also, you will never be sent a whole box of swatches.

Additionally, there is no liquidator who is going to send you a free pair of Prada sunglasses so you can "inspect it".  However, if you want to inspect a Prada item to see what the quality is like you could drive to a store that carries Prada and look at the glasses to learn about them.  A liquidator (like our company) buys truckloads of leftover stock directly from designer stores, so the Prada glasses at Saks are the same "quality" as the Prada glasses we get in, because they are from Saks.

IN CLOSING:

If you are trying to score free merchandise to resell or keep for yourself, this isn't going to happen.

If you are trying to truly see the quality of an item, you can buy a very small quantity to inspect it.
