Sellers: Proof that eBay is Making a Comeback, but Does it Help Sellers?
Posted by Big Brand Wholesale.com on 21st Dec 2021
If you're an eBay seller in 2021 / 2022, you MUST READ this post.
I want to start off by showing you a super simple graph that speaks volumes:
The graph shown above demonstrates the amount of revenue eBay has generated, by year, broken down to quarters of the year. Pay close attention to these two specific decreases:
In less than 4 months (2014-2015), eBay generated 50% less revenue and since that time it has never reached peak again. In fact, in 2020 eBay almost hit it's lowest revenue since the early 2000's. Wow. So for all those sellers out there, screaming on Reddit boards and in eBay forums that their sales are dropping, you ain't lyin'! This graph proves you to be 100% correct. Although eBay did rebound a little in early 2021, overall quarterly sales havn't come close to the "glory days" of 2012 - 2014.
But, to add to this I would like to show you two additional things;
The amount of eBay sellers is decreasing every year, since 2014:
In fact, eBay has lost 5 MILLION sellers since 2015, however, what's super interesting is that although eBay has lost 20% of it's sellers, it has actually generated almost record-breaking PROFIT (for itself) of all time:
Let's take a look at these two charts, side by side:
Specifically, look at these two lines:
One must ask themselves, "How is eBay losing 20% of it's sellers, yet making it's 2nd-highest-ever profit?"
Answer: FEES, fees, more fees, fee hikes, increased costs, fees for ads, feeeeeeeeeees...
You may or may not find it surprising to discover that a very large portion of eBay sellers do not realize that they are not actually "making money". They are simply recycling the same funds, over and over and over and continuing to give their blood, sweat and tears into their eBay store, yet never getting ahead because recycling money is an illusion of success. We will be discussing money recycling within the next couple weeks, stay tuned!
