Cheap and Free Necklace Photography & Boutique Displays

Posted by BigBrandWholesale.com on 7th Dec 2020

Need to take pics of necklaces for your online listings or show them off in your boutuque? Don’t want to lay them on a table? Here’s some super simple, yet creative, ways to make your necklaces look AWESOME!

We all can agree that jewelry on a table (even a nice table), looks like trash... sparkly trash, but nonetheless… trash...:

So, with that in mind, here’s some really mega super simple ways to photograph or display your neck blings:

IDEA #1: The absolute EASIEST and CHEAPEST way is to use 100% CLEAR vases (yes, plastic IS FINE!!!) I do apologize, this photo is from our boutique from 2014 so the quality isn’t amazing:

With that being said, you can see it better in this photo of our showcase. I put arrows by the displays because, as you will notice, they are almost invisible, as intended!:

And, here’s our main showcase where the more expensive items were:

HOW WE DID IT: CHEAP OR FREE VASES

Any vase with a WIDE, RIGID TOP or Lip will work awesome. MOST HAVE WIDE OR RIGID TOP!!!  Here’s some great examples:

If you only want to buy 1 prop for all sizes and styles of necklaces and you want a fairly upscale look, this guy costs a little under $17 but it’s amazing! The reason this is great is because the top has “notches” that you can fit the ends of the necklace into, to hold it in place:

If you think $16 is too cheap for your upscale bling, here’s a genuine Lead Crystal designer brand for a little under $60 that is truly luxury (click image to open in Amazon Prime):

I loved this so much because it was really universal! I could use it for large, chunky necklaces or fine, thin necklaces. Watch this quick vid I made in 2017:

This clear vase is under $7 on Amazon (with Free Ship!) This one is 1-gallon:

When displaying, or photographing necklaces, it basically acts like a neck because it has a lip. If the necklace is heavy you can add a mega-tiny bit of scotch tape to hold it on while you take your photo.

If the necklace is very heavy, throwing  CLEAR glass marbles in the bottom not only looks great but also adds weight to the vase:

I have always personally like photographing short / choker-length necklaces on vases like this one ($17 new on Amazon or as low as $14 used on Amazon):

The reason I love the vase shown above is because it is very curvy, so no matter how small the necklace is, you can find a spot on the vase that it will snuggly fit.

You might even have a vase in your basement that you can dust off and use, making this method FREE!

IDEA #2: I accidentally figured this out! I went to an Office Max “Going Out of Business Sale” and I bought thousands of dollars worth of metal shelving, but the guy insisted I take these wooden “binder / folder organizer” things. I had no idea what to do with them!

But hey, I won’t pass up a box full of free crap, so they came home with me. A year later I took these things, painted them black (with cheap wood spray paint) and they became the most awesome necklace display EVER!!!

So as you can see, this totally works!  Plus, its mega cost-effective and the most simple thing ever, especially if all you really need is to photograph the main part of the necklace, like shown in the video above.  I came to learn that you can find a " wooden plate holder" that does the identical display trick!!!

IDEA 3:  The Typical "Necklace Display" - WORD OF CAUTION:  If you get this, you absolutely MUST also buy a good lint roller because these things attract every particle of heaven and hell 24/7:

You can get these things for $8-ish, but like I said, make sure you score a lint roller at the same time because a single spec of dust will make your jewelry pic look like garbage!

IDEA #4: If you dislike the idea of the display shown above, there's also a necklace display that is easy to photograph from above:

The type of mini-mannequin shown above is a "lay down display" and is typically under $20 on Amazon for a really nice quality piece!
