8 Cheap & Easy Photography TABLE COVERING Ideas + 7 to Avoid

Posted by Big Brand Wholesale.com on 30th Oct 2020

No! You do not have to buy anything fancy! Here’s how to score the cheapest, most awesome table coverings for your product photos:

SINGLE CURTAIN PANELS

You can get individual curtain panels dirt cheap, especially if they’re liquidated because most people need at least 2 panels, ideally 4. So when only a single panel is available in that style, you can pick it up for only a couple bucks, brand new! Personally, I would suggest getting at least 70” in length, unless you are using a super tiny table, in which case a 50+ inch might work fine for you. I prefer the 70"+ because it drapes over all edges of the table and therefore stays in place.

TIP: The best place to score super cheap single panels is at an actual store, such as JC Penny, Kohls, Walmart, Target.  Shop the Home Goods clearance section.  But if you don't want to go to a store, here's a great one on Amazon Today:

SHOWER CURTAINS

Shower curtains are awesome because they are typically the type of material that you can wipe. Don't get a super shiny shower curtain because the reflection will make your photos look bad.  Check out todays Shower Curtains on Amazon.

DAMAGED BEDDING SETS

This is a wonderful opportunity to get more than 1 table covering at a rock bottom price. Usually the comforter is damaged (or missing), so the set is marked down to $10 or less. Even though the comforter (or pillow cases) are not present, you are still getting multiple items that you can use! You might even be able to sell some pieces too. Make sure you check out the Used Amazon Warehouse Listings! Make sure you look for the Used price in each listing because you can save a TON of cash:

INDIVIDUAL BED SHEETS

If you can’t find a mega-deal damaged bed set, go for a pack of sheetsAmazon Warehouse has great deals on sheets that are sold as “Used”, however they are not actually used sheets. The reason they are being sold as used is because the exterior packaging is ripped, missing or a Amazon shopper purchased them then realized that they bought the wrong size sheets, for example, they purchased a Twin set but they actually need a Full.

MATERIAL BY THE YARD, WHEN IT’S ON CLEARANCE

JoAnns is a wonderful place to get clearance fabric! Head into a JoAnn Fabrics and go directly to the discount section of the store. Most of the stores that I have been to have a MASSIVE material clearance area that is always loaded up.

Rumor is that Sunday mornings is when the maximum amount of clearance is out because it is supposedly all marked down on Saturday night.  Plus, you can almost always get a coupon on RetailMeNot.com for 40% off 1 yard of fabric.

WALL TAPESTRIES

You can grab these pretty cheap, especially if you buy "Used".  These come in a million different patterns, colors, designs and materials.  Avoid super silky tapestries because they are very shiny. One thing to consider is that overall tapestries are delicate, so it isn't easy to wash if you get gunk on it from a clearance sticker.

VINYL-BACKED TABLECLOTHS

I absolutely love using Vinyl-back table cloths in our product video room because they WIPE CLEAN!!! You might think products are clean, but you would be truly amazed at how much gunk gets on our table cloths. I assume it’s a combination of body care, tape from gift box packaging and clearance stickers, but my goodness, there’s so much gunk that we have to clean our tablecloths monthly and replace them completely a couple times a year.

TRADITIONAL TABLECLOTHS

Well.... obviously.  But if you want to score them extra cheap, shop the Amazon Warehouse.  Keep in mind that the Warehouse Deals assortment changes every day, so if you don't see something you like today, check again in two or three days.

TIP:  If you are having issues with your table covering slipping, a super simple solution is a couple binder clips:

BONUS TIP: PLASTIC OVERLAY IS A MUST FOR BODY CARE!

If you watch our product videos, you might notice that we actually cover our table cloths with plastic. We do this specifically because of the gunk. It is more cost effective to replace the plastic than to spot clean, wash and steam all the curtains and sheets all the time. If you are getting a fancy tablecloth or if you don’t want to deal with cleaning, these are amazing, crystal clear SHOWER CURTAINS we buy from Amazon. Very nice quality, super thick plastic

AVOID:

Dollar store table cloths.  Not only are they light and flimsy but they're also so cheap that the rip super easy.  Plastic tablecloths as a whole kind of suck, unless it is a VINYL table cloth.

Season-Specific Patterns!!!  Yes, I absolutely agree that it is adorable to take photos of stocking stuffers on top of Christmas fabric.  BUT if those stocking stuffers don't sell and January 28th rolls around, now you're stuck.

Anything with a stitched pattern.  It looks like you took the photo of the product on your personal comforter, which can make people feel weird about buying something that has been on your bed.

Word-Patterns.  Distracts from the product you are trying to sell.

Personally, I have issues with purple colored table coverings.  I don't know what it is about purple but it makes red and pink inventory look different than it is supposed to.  Blue, Tan, Yellow and other natural colors have worked very well for me.

Black table coverings have also been tough for me. Black seems to make everything look faded.  On the other hand, light grey has been a wonderful covering to use.

I dislike White, only because it shows dirt. If you absolutely want to go with white, use our suggestions and either get a wipe-able vinyl backed table cloth or cover it with clear plastic.  Or, be prepared to spend a ton of time laundering it.  Personally, I would rather spend time selling than laundering.  :)
