If you have read our Complete Guide to Amazon Ungating and used our totally free Amazon Ungating Checklist, you have already learned a ton about the Ungating Process, but today I want to expand on this topic.

We are often asked “If I buy from your site will Amazon Ungate me, for sure???” - and this answer to this question is never a simple “yes” or “no” - we have had tons of buyers get ungated on Amazon and we have had just as many not get Ungated. But why? Why do some get the approval and others don’t?

The reason for this is because the decision to Ungate is 100% Amazon's decision. Amazon bases their decision on whether or not:

• The Ungating Applicant followed all of the directions and submitted all of the correct paperwork (must read: Amazon Ungating Checklist)
• The Ungating Applicant has good Seller Metrics (a positive HISTORY of Amazon sales)
• Amazon does not like overpopulating their site with specific brands or products, so Amazon will flat out stop Ungating that brand / product-type until further notice. This means that even if you did meet every requirement and even if you do have strong Metrics, you might be denied “just because”.... Yes, “just because” and nothing more. I remember a while back Amazon had 100% stopped allowing new Beauty / Body Care sellers and people were outraged with Amazon.  I am not sure if they have since began allowing more but I assume they have.
• The Ungating Applicant purchased the correct merchandise quantity and also purchased merchandise that qualifies for Ungating
• The Ungating Applicant is applying to be Ungated for merchandise that Amazon ALLOWS the sales of; there are TONS of brands Amazon will not Ungate, even IF everything else is 100% correct!  
• And more.  There's a lot more.  An awful lot more factors.  *sigh!*

As you can imagine, this can become very confusing for someone trying to get Ungated and not understanding why they keep getting rejections, and I absolutely agree with you that it is a strange process... this is part of the reason why we choose not to sell on Amazon even though they have asked us many, many times to become a merchant for their B2B site.

Other times Amazon will look over the Ungating Applicants submission and deem the applicant "unagtable" then contact us by email to verify the buyers purchase. Usually when this step happens the buyer is about to get Ungated, and this excites us so much that we reach out to the buyer right away via email to let them know Amazon just might approve them!  GENERALLY, when Amazon contacts us to verify an invoice it is 2 - 3 MONTHS after the buyer purchased through us.  Granted, I have no way of knowing how long the buyer waited to file all of the correct paperwork with 'Zon, but I can absolutely confirm that when they contact us it is 60-days or more after our buyer made the purchase... so it's safe to say, this is not a quick process.

Either way, the wholesale company has no way of knowing what paperwork the seller will submit to Amazon or which Amazon employee will review the forms or what decision the Amazon employee will make. So there is absolutely no way at all that any wholesale company can guarantee Ungating. If you see a company promising that you WILL get Ungated if you buy their designer merchandise, it IS NOT TRUE. In fact, I would advise you to avoid purchasing through any company who makes these claims because it’s flat out dishonest.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  DO NOT LET ANY WHOLESALER CONFUSE YOU!  There is a difference between a wholesale site saying:

"You CAN Sell These Products on Amazon"  (this is 100% fine)

versus

"You WILL Be Ungated"  (this is a lie!)
