What to Do if You Think a Wholesaler Scammed You
Posted by Big Brand Wholesale.com on 6th Nov 2021
Hopefully you have read our other blog posts, like Why You Should NEVER Order Inventory from China, but let’s assume this is your first time on our awesome blog, and let’s also assume you paid a wholesaler and one of the following has occurred:
- Your tracking number STILL doesn’t work and it’s been over a week
- The wholesaler stopped responding to your inquiries
- You suddenly realized the wholesaler has a ton of terrible reviews
- You received something but it’s not what you ordered, or its not as described in major ways or it’s only a small fraction of what you purchased AND you are unable to get a reply from the wholesaler
Just like those medication commercials say, “If you are experiencing one or more of these symptoms, immediately discontinue use” - but now what?
Before we get into steps, let’s first discuss what a “scam” is, and isn’t.
WHAT A SCAM IS:
- You never received your purchase
- Tracking doesn’t work AND the seller isn’t responding
- Additional charges were applied to your card without permission and the seller won’t respond
WHAT A SCAM ISN’T:
- You don’t like the items, but you got what you ordered
- It took a while to arrive due to hurricanes, power outages, etc
- The carrier CLEARLY lost the parcel; you can see that the package was moving along, based on the tracking number, then it suddenly stopped moving after it was scanned-into Kansas.
- After researching you feel you overpaid because you found it cheaper on a different site
- One of the items is damaged
- The carrier smashed the package and everything arrived damaged
- The inventory smells bad (although this situation is awful, it’s not a “scam”. It’s just crappy inventory, which is a different issue entirely
- It looks worn but was sold as new (this could be a 100% honest mistake)
- You purchased 300 pieces but you are only counting 298. (again, this likely is a completely honest mistake. It makes no sense for a seller to ship 98% of an order then spend even more on shipping 2 items)
- You purchased 300 pieces but you only received 100. - Chances are you have more parcels in transit. It is common for multiple parcel shipments to arrive on different days and this has absolutely nothing to do with the seller.
Ok, so now that we have defined that a “scam”, here’s how to deal with the situation:
First, STOP CALLING. You want to keep all of your communications to written words because you want hard evidence. There is absolutely no way to prove what was said over a phone call, so if you are relying on calling, it will be your word against theirs. If you instead stick to emails or direct messages you will have actual proof of the dialogue.
Second, if the wholesaler is located outside of the USA you will want to use this website to track your parcel(s). ←- The title of this blog post is “How to Check Tracking After the Package Has Left the USA”, however the information is the same as if the parcel starts outside of the USA.
You see, the problem is that, for some strange reason, our USA sites for tracking international parcels don’t work correctly until the parcel is scanned into the USA however there are websites made specifically for tracking parcels that shipped from outside of the USA.
Before you freak out over your tracking number “not working”, make sure you are using a legitimate international package tracking site.
If you have used the correct site to 100% confirm that the tracking number is not operational, then there’s only a two possibilities:
1. The carrier hasn’t scanned it (unfortunately carriers can be lazy)
Or
2. The seller never shipped it and is outright scamming you
There’s no other options and, unfortunately, scam sellers are plaguing the internet. You can read about our families
terrible experiences with scammers selling on eBay. And, in that same blog post about our ebay scam nightmare, we show you how a seller goes from good feedback to a massive slew of enraged, 1-stars literally overnight. This is because the seller started off building a legitimate profile, then they chose the day that the scam will begin (click PLAY on video below to see how bad this is)
Third, if you have determined that you absolutely have been scammed your only option is to dispute the charges with your credit card company or payment method (PayPal, Google Pay, etc). If you paid by bank wire or Western Union, you are 100% screwed and the only thing you can do at this point is to write bad reviews to try to warn others about the company being a scam.
Speaking of reviews, YOU CAN NOT TRUST “Trust Pilot” reviews; dishonest sellers are using Trustpilot Review System to fraudulently achieve a wealth of 5-star reviews by collecting them as soon as the buyer PLACES THE ORDER. Of course a buyer is happy right after they bought something… and this is exactly why HONEST sellers want reviews after the merchandise is DELIVERED. Seriously, read about how crazy the TrustPilot Review Scam is.
Fourth, next time you buy wholesale, order through a reputable company. Here at BigBrandWholesale.com we have been in business since 2005 and not only offer same day, free shipping but we also welcome “ready in 2 hours local pickup”.
