UPS HUGE SurePost Rates Increase Leaves Online Sellers Enraged
Posted by Big Brand Wholesale.com on 14th Dec 2021
On December 9th, 2021 UPS blindsided online sellers by announcing a large rate increase. Here's what you need to know:
UPS said it will raise SurePost rates by 5.9% on parcels weighing between 1 and 9 pounds, starting Dec. 26, 2021.
For parcels weighing 1 and 5 pounds, the rate will increase by an average of 6.2% and will go up to 6.5% depending on the delivery destination zone.
Under the rates published on the UPS website, rates on parcels weighing 6 to 9 pounds will, for the most part, be less than their lower-weighted counterparts, regardless of the delivery zones. This coming change in cost has online sellers scratching their heads in confusion, being that the vast majority of eCommerce revolves around the lesser weight parcels. These new rates appear to be a direct attack on online sellers.
And, as if the rate increase isn't enough to ruin your morning, UPS also announced it will raise most of its existing delivery surcharges! The real kick to the craw comes when you see the insane increase; the current surcharge is $2.35 - $2.95, but as of December 26th, the price is almost DOUBLE... the new cost will be $3.40 - $4.10 per parcel... YIKES.
We will keep you updated as we obtain more information regarding this rate increase.
