Upcycling: Making Candles from Bottle Caps
Posted by Big Brand Wholesale.com on 21st Mar 2022
If you’re always on the hunt for ways to make money, here’s one I just heard about and found to be exceptionally interesting: Bottle Cap Tea Light Candles.
Shout out to Nerd Babe Co on Pinterest for the awesome photo!
I am always a fan of any way to make money off actual trash and this is no exception!
Not only is this a cool way to Upcycle but it’s also easy and can make you some dough. All you need for this venture is some bottle caps (yep, the ones you planned to throw away), some cheap candle wick and candle wax. If you’re feeling froggy, add some fragrance and if you’re feeling broke AF, you can melt your used candles (or even broken crayons!) for wax.
Another thank you to Katie Richie for adding this Pinterest Pin.
The directions for making this project are mega-basic:
Put the caps on a tray, with the inside facing up, obviously.
Melt the wax.
If you wanna add fragrance to the wax, do it now and make sure it’s blended in.
There’s a little debate over whether you should put the wick in before, or during, pouring the wax. I always believed you should put it in first. Many people suggest tacking the wick down with a dab of hot glue. Others prefer to dip the very tip of the wick into the wax then allow the little wax drop to harden and keep the wick in place prior to pouring the wax . Regardless, you want to have your wick in before you pour the wax otherwise you’ll have to hold the darn wick until the wax fully hardens otherwise it will shift on a wack angle.
By now your wax should be melted and your wick should be in. Like a sain person, slowly pour your wax into the bottle cap.
Let it sit overnight to harden. Boom, done.
This idea isn’t limited to just beer caps. You can use Starbucks drink caps, Snapple or basically anything that is a metal cup shape.
