How to Ship BODY CARE So It Doesn’t Leak / Break (3 Tips You Haven’t Heard!)
Posted by Big Brand Wholesale.com on 26th Aug 2020
Body care can be a nightmare to ship! But here’s some tips you haven’t heard:
TIP 1: NEVER use scotch tape on the body care! Scotch tape is a super simple solution to hold down the lid and prevent spills BUT it is damn-near-impossible to get off of the bottle once it arrives. For some strange reason the scotch tape “fuses” to the bottle.
INSTEAD: Use Painters Tape! Yep, it’s the perfect solution. Almost all types of painters tape are “Guaranteed Residue Free for 7+ Days”, so that means the tape will hold the lid down tight and come right off with ease; no ruined labels, no unhappy buyers!
NOTE: You do NOT need to buy expensive painters tape! Equally, avoid “junk”. Here’s the exact tape we buy off Amazon Prime:
Personally, we prefer the wider tape because you end up using less.
TIP #2: Do you know what happens if a parcel starts to leak out of the box? The carrier stops transit! And, instead of returning it to you, they immediately send it to Virginia where it goes to a contamination center… which is understandable, because the carrier has no idea WHAT is leaking… it could be flammable, a pesticide or poison… who knows. Worst of all, you are never notified that the parcel is being “destroyed” AND, unless you can PROVE the carrier did something wrong, you can’t even file an insurance claim!
INSTEAD: Always put a plastic bag or poly mailer INSIDE the box, then put the body care inside the plastic bag. Self-Seal Poly mailers really are the ultimate solution! This way, even if the body care DOES LEAK, it is still delivered. Once it has been delivered you can address the issue the buyer has. For example, if a very tiny quantity of body mist leaked, a $2 refund may be there perfect solution to make the buyer happy, whereas if the parcel never arrived the buyer is livid and you are not only out the inventory but now you also owe a full refund!
NOTE: Yes, you can use standard plastic grocery bags if you’re really broke, but these are not nearly as sufficient as a poly mailer because a poly mailer completely seals and is made of thicker, WATERPROOF plastic. Anything that does spill will be held inside the poly mailer and never leak through the box! A standard 10 x13” poly holds basically any size body care. Here’s a couple cheap, super efficient:
You can grab 100 10x13 bags for under $13 (or 200 for under $19):
Or you can go with CLEAR self-seal bags. These are a little bit thinner but still totally get the job done. These are much cheaper! 100 pieces of 9x13 is only $9.99:
You can put multiple pieces of body care inside one bag, providing they have the caps taped and they DO NOT TOUCH (if they are glass or breakable). Now let’s discuss actual packaging….
TIP #3: Air Pockets and Bubble Wrap are not genuinely needed. If you want to shell out money to buy them, go for it.
INSTEAD: You can achieve the same result by using newspaper or packing paper and wrapping it around the item until it looks like a “little football” then tape it up nice. This is literally what we call it at our warehouse, we say “Football that one so it doesn’t break”. Once you thoroughly “football it”, you should be able to literally throw it to someone standing 15 feet away without it breaking. If you think it will break, you haven’t “footballed” it enough; add more paper then tape it up real good.
NOTES: If you are super broke, ask stores that have newspapers what they do with yesterdays paper. Most places throw them out or recycle them. Most places are happy to give you old papers. BUT, if you can’t obtain good, free paper from a store, the next option is to ask MOVING COMPANIES because their customers PAY for packing paper. When the paper is done they have to throw it out into a dumpster. Instead of paying for dumpster fees they are happy to give it to you. BUT if you cannot get anyone to gift you awesome paper, then you can buy packing paper much cheaper than air pockets or bubble wrap. Here’s the different options you have:
Standard Packing Paper: Here’s one of the better deals on Amazon - 640 BIG sheets for around $31 but if you’re on a budget you can score 120 sheets for around $15:
Butcher Paper / Kraft Paper Rolls: 175 FEET for around $18 there is also 100 feet for around $12 This specific paper is 18” WIDE, so it lasts a lot longer than you would expect. Unlike Tissue Paper, this paper is THICK, which means you need less:
BUT, if you are ok with a less wide roll, you can opt for a 12” wide “Standard Brown Paper” roll. This stuff is a totally awesome deal - 1,000 FEET for under $13 BUT it’s only 12” wide.
