How to Pack and Ship Clothing to Avoid Wrinkles (Tips You HAVEN'T HEARD!)

Super simple advice that you may not have considered for shipping apparel!
Most people instinctively fold clothing to ship it.... after all, Mom has always told us to fold our clothing so it just makes sense!:
However I hate folded inventory because it leaves a clear crease down the dead center of the garment. And, if you are reselling the item (or even wearing the top), you now have to steam it or iron to get rid of the lines... unless you are okay with wearing it looking like an idiot. Who wants their new shirt to arrive looking like this???
So, the ultimate solution to this is to ROLL the item… just like you are rolling sushi! When a rolled item arrives, it can instantly be unrolled and is almost always ready-to-wear or sell.
Additionally, a huge benefit of rolling is that you can fit the item into a mega-tiny parcel, which saves you money on shipping and these savings can be passed down to the buyer, thus increasing your sales. Here’s a great visual showing the difference between a fold and a roll:
Now, you may look at the image above and feel that the Rolled shirt doesn’t “look” as nice as the folded shirt…. And when you initially pack it up this is indeed true. However the folded shirt usually ends up being delivered to your buyer, crumpled up in the bottom of a flaccid parcel because the mail carrier does not keep it nice and flat during transit.
By ROLLING the top you end up creating a wrinkle-free (or as close to it as humanly possible!) parcel as possible! This is because the material is pressed together, without any hard creases. Look at the photo below to see how the material is CURVY, not creased:
You will also notice that, in the photo above, the shirt is small enough to fit in a hand, instead of being 12”x11” when first packed. This means that a shirt can ship in a small mailer:
You can grab 100 10x13 bags for under $13 (or 200 for under $19):
And if you want to step your game up, you can always buy nicer looking mailers. Since you’re purchasing a smaller size mailer, you can afford to splurge on the looks!
Then, when a rolled shirt comes out of the mailer, it is ready to wear!
Trust me on this; your buyers will truly appreciate their item arriving ready-for-use versus needing 10+ minutes of effort!
With that being said, there are indeed times you cannot roll. As an example, at our warehouse, when we ship large quantities of clothing, they often have to be folded to fit in the parcel better. I hate it. I hate every minute of it. I beg our warehouse guys to roll whenever possible BUT I also get it... we ship for free, so we can't sell a bulk lot for $100 then spend $150 on shipping it. BUT, if you are able to roll a couple items together, then PLEASE do your buyer a favor and eleminate the wrinkles!
