BEST Humidity Absorbers - Inventory Storage, Floods, Basements

Posted by Big Brand Wholesale.com on 7th Jul 2021

Whether you're an online seller who is storing inventory in your basement, or if you live in a humid area, or even an area that is prone to flooding, I absolutely must share with you this phenomenal product that save my life.

Ok, saying it "saved my life" is a little hyperbolic, but this product genuinely is a God-Send! Here in Michigan we tend to get a bit of rain as well as high humidity and our rain turned to absolutely insane floods on June 25th, 2021.

Early in the morning on June 26th I was awoken from deep sleep by a bizarre buzzing sound that I had never heard before. Still partially asleep I assumed that the buzzing noise might be my fish aquarium air pump vibrating against something, but after a few moments I realized the noise didn’t sound like that, so, in the pitch black I shimmied out of my MyPillow Weighted Blanket and stepped out of bed… directly into water… over-ankle-deep water. Imagine my shock!

I splashed my feet across the room and flipped on the light switch while in confusion looking at the floor. When the lights came on I saw a pair of my Adidas sandals literally floating past me, followed by some colored pencils. “OMG, my aquarium shattered!”, I thought but when I looked at the aquarium it was still intact so I began sliding my hands around the seams to try to locate the leak…. But no leak was found. By this point I was becoming more coherent and the realization that the house is flooding became apparent.

I started looking around and the only way I can describe what I saw is “horror”. Everything, and I mean everything sitting 6” or less off the ground was underwater…. Oh, and the buzzing noise was my aquariums power strip; everything on the power strip was on timers and the entire thing was laying on the carpet, under a half-foot of water, buzzing away but ironically still working, so I rushed to kill the power.

To make matters worse, the following day I discovered a lot of rain water got into the warehouse. Thankfully all of our inventory is on shelves and pallets and the water was a millimeter lower than touching the inventory, but nonetheless, it still soaked wood pallets, got on carpet in my office and gym and quite frankly, caused chaos because dealing with one flood is difficult but dealing with 2 is a nightmare.

That day we began running tons of fans. Thankfully we had 12+ fans stored in our warehouse because the flooding in Metro Detroit was so bad that stores like Home Depot and Walmart were 100% sold out of fans, wet / dry shop vacs and other “flood essentials”.

Although the water began to slowly dry, the smell of mildew / old water sitting / gross was BAD at both locations and was driving me insane. I began researching ways to quickly remove the odor and, like with any issue in life, if you turn to the internet you will receive 50+ completely different pieces of advice. In this case the suggestions ranged from “extreme”, such as hiring their company to fix it for us or completely removing all carpet, floorboards, etc all the way to “more simple” suggestions that included everything from dumping baby powder on the floor to spraying air freshener. After analyzing all of the suggestions I concluded that baby power on water sounds like a sludge-mess, spraying air freshener doesn’t solve the problem, I’d prefer not to rip out a ton of my warehouse landlords carpet and I really don’t want to drop $8,000+ on hiring someone else to figure it out. So I turned to Amazon and sure enough, I found real-world solutions within seconds.

I compared many of the products and decided to buy several cases of Vacplus Moisture Absorbers  Lemon Scented Humidity Absorber (they also are sold "Unscented" as well as in Charcoal form):

My cases all arrived Wednesday June 30th, which was 4 days after I stepped out of bed into a pool. Keep in mind that during these 4 days I continued to run the fans and reposition them constantly to keep the air flowing in different spots.

The day these arrived I opened them all up and put them on the ground, in the areas that has dried due to the fans. I spaced them out approximately 4 feet apart in the really bad areas and used 1 or 2 containers in the areas that were slightly damp but not wet.

They have a very light lemon smell. The smell isn’t strong enough to make your room have fragrance. So if you want to overcome the odor from the water you will need to grab a candle or Febreze spray.

The containers are pretty cool. They have a foil top that you peel off to “activate” the contents. That’s all you have to do.

As you will notice the container has an area to collect the water it absorbs:

And the water absorbs through a cloth located on the top, under the plastic barricade piece:

Truthfully, I wasn’t expecting these would do much of anything, despite their seemingly endless 5-star Amazon reviews. However I noticed the odor in our warehouse was almost GONE by Friday (only 48 hours after peeling the foil off the top of the containers!) and, when I arrived home from work that same day, there was virtually no odor at all in my basement!

I took Saturday and Sunday off working at the warehouse to focus on finishing up the house flood cleaning. When I came back into work on Monday, July 5th, the odor was 100% GONE! I noticed my containers had not collected any water in the bottom basin part however the contents, which is like little beads, was hard so I could tell the moisture was absorbed. Additionally the carpet was now completely dry!

I can conclusively tell you that Vacplus Moisture Absorbers are a seriously incredible product and I will continue to use this, even without flooding because it’s a total must-have for any area that faces humid conditions… and… if you have taken the time to read our blog posts about PROPERLY storing merchandise after you list it, you already know that general humidity will destroy everything from jewelry to cosmetics to body care and more!
